2007 SCSA Write-up

Wow, let's start off with the weather. It couldn't have been better; staying in the 70s and low 80s and no clouds to boot. If you couldn't see the targets you'd better visit your optometrist. And of course the premier shooting range, Triple B. Every one at the range did their best to put on a great shoot.

The Referees were great, thanks to Don Ziegler. Don donated countless hours to training each Puller and made sure each one was qualified. All the pullers passed the NSSA Field Referee Test and were certified.
Harold Jeffers worked with the mechanics to ensure that all the machines were working properly. Thanks to the Triple B Staff there were no excessive delays or breakdowns. Billie Barsotti cooked a fantastic dinner for Saturday night. There were 97 participants registered in the shoot and over 80 of them remained after the shoot-offs to enjoy the grand feast that was prepared for them.

We had in excess of $9,000.00 spent on exquisite; Joe Freitas hand carved and painted decoy ducks. They were given to all event Champions, Champion Runner-up second, Champion Runner-up third and Class Champion. Custom belt buckles were also given to Class Second and Third winners.

The event started off on Friday with the Doubles competition. There were well over 50 people that participated; David Hurzeler and Randy Sotowa topped the group with 98s. Randy was absent for the shoot-offs so Dave took the Gun Champ and Randy got Runner Up Second. Brian Holt crushed 97 birds which placed him in the Runner-up third position. Harold Jeffers and Adam Stull shot-off for AA1 and AA2. When the smoke dissipated, Adam was still standing and achieved AA1 and Harold received AA2.

Saturday, commenced with the 12 gauge. Roman Warren, Aris Melonas and Gil Siu achieved the top score of 100. All three shot-off for the Top Gun Award with Roman kicking butt and getting the Gun Champion. Gil finished second and Aris received Runner up third. The concluding gun was the 20 gauge. Lee Morris, Ahmad Shirloo, Brian Holt, Gil Siu and Jeff Lerma broke them all with a perfect 100. All five of them were eagerly gathered for the true test. The shoot-off lasted a considerable time resulting in Ahmad taking Gun Champ, Jeff Lerma received Runner up second, Lee got third, Brian took AA1 and Gil ended up with A1. Incidentally, this was Jeff's first 100 and we want to congratulate him in his great accomplishment.

A cool crisp morning started off the 28 gauge Sunday event with lots of good scores. Brian Holt and Kevin Hull broke-em all and shot off for top honors. Brian jumped out front and obtained the Gun Champ and Kevin was on his heals grabbing the Runner-up second place. This was Kevin's first 100, too, and sincere congratulations go to him. A great score of 99 competed for Runner-up third by Caroline Church, Aris Melonas, Richard Riddle, Jackson Hwang, Doug Hirsch and Ahmad Shirloo. Caroline whupped the Boys and grabbed the award. Along came the Squirt Gun (410 bore) with Steve Claunch, Brian Holt, Carl Booher and David Sines crushing 99 of the tiny evasive orange disks. Once again, Brian emerged from the battle earning First Place. Steve jumped to Second and Carl (Bubba) reached out and took Runner-up third. Brian Holt achieved a spectacular 398 HOA followed by Steve Claunch with a 395 placing them in the first and second category. Carl booher also had a great score of 393 and he received the Runner-up third award.

There were three, two man teams that entered the shoot. Jordan Liao and Jackson Hwang tied with Chris Lozano and Chris Baker shooting 192s. They entered the shoot-off arena and Jordan along with Jackson emerged victorious. Champion of Champions had 20 competitors and Brian Holt took AA, Robert Hultzen got A class, Russ Reichard took B, Charles Lea got C and Dan Fisk received the D class.

If you weren't there, you missed a marvelous time with great friends and shooting.
